Novak Djokovic Issues Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Shadow"

Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career like a "cloud" – and raised doubts about the scheduling of the sanction last year.

The Ban Explained

Sinner completed a three-month prohibition in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.

"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," the champion remarked in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It's just something that, it was so significant, and after such events, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There's always going to be a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "didn't do it on purpose", but he then scrutinized how the Italian managed to complete his ban without sitting out any major tournaments.

"There is the lack of transparency, the irregularity, the convenience [of] the ban coming between the slams, so he doesn't miss out the others – it simply appeared highly unusual," he further commented.

Broader Tennis Community Response

"I am dissatisfied with how the situation was managed and you could hear numerous fellow athletes, across both tours, who had comparable circumstances voicing their concerns publicly and asserting it represented favorable handling."
